'Lottery' by Patricia Wood:
This book was a heartfelt, diary-like book about a young, slow(not retarded) man named Perry. He was disowned by his mother and 2 brothers and lived with his Gram his entire life. He works at a Marina Boat Shop in Washington State. His best friend is named Keith, and he works with him. Early on in the story it is shown that he and his Gram have a schedule type week. They go to BINGO one day, have spaghetti dinner one night, and on Fridays, they get a lottery ticket and the crossword from the paper. Eventually, Gram dies and he is sad. She left him the house and everything else. The brothers and his mother come in and take everything of value including the house. His boss Gary allows him to live above the Marina and so forth. The next Friday, he buys a lottery ticket and wins $12 million. Suddenly, he has a mother and 2 brothers again, but Keith sees through their disguises and tries his best to save Perry from all of their tricks. The story goes along to show that money isn't everything and you really have to read the rest of the story. It's addicting and you would want to read it all in one sitting.
Never have I ever read a book more addicting than 'Lottery'. It's a book that's quite hard to come by and my mom had to order it offline in order to get her hands on it. If anyone wants to borrow it, just let me know and I'll get it to you as soon as I can. Just understand that you'll already be on a list!
